THINGS TO KNOW
Boston
Terriers, French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs are more expensive to purchase
than other breeds. The reason is because these breeds have relatively small
litters. Boston Terriers are very labor intensive. Many litters are entirely
hand-raised. They require c-sections costing $950-$3000 (depending on where you
live) for them to be safely born. Many "backyard breeders" who advertise
in local papers will produce puppies and sell them for less do not temperament
test or genetic test. I get emails every day from people who buy dogs
from less experienced breeders saying that they have a one year old dog with
medical problems like seizures, allergies, deafness, cushings disease, hypothyroidism, demodectic mange,
heart defects, and hemivertibrae all preventable by using dogs of good
genetics. The breeder they got their dog from had no idea what genetic problems
their dogs have, a must in order to be able to safely and ethically raise this
breed. They also did not offer a guarantee, or a very limited guarantee but
never a lifetime genetic guarantee. In the end, the new owner may end up having
expensive medical costs requiring the use of expensive specialists, and
traveling thousands of miles to get help for their precious babies. Many are
put down or die because they are so sick. Temperament of a Boston Terrier
is what makes them good companions they should not be overly hyper, should not
be aggressive, fear aggressive or unfriendly they should be lively, friendly,
well socialized, get along with animals and people, love to be with their
owners and easy to train, all part of why genetics is so important. When you
buy a puppy having unknown genetics, many of these problems may occur at a
later date. Buyers may pay a little more for my dogs, but in return they will
have the benefit of over thirty years of experience behind the dogs that come
from us. In the long run those buyers will spend much less on a dog coming from
my healthy blood lines than from other breeders that are less diligent about
the problems that poor breeding cause. When you buy a dog from me, I will
provide life-long customer support!
Often,
callers say "I just want a pet, not a fancy showdog". This does not
mean you should buy your dog from a less experienced breeder who doesn't
understand or concern their selves with genetic health or temperament issues
just because they are less expensive! Pet puppies and show puppies all come in
the same litters. They all cost the same to raise, so
ALL the puppies I produce have the benefit of years of research and concerns
about health. All of our dogs come with a lifetime genetic health guarantee -
we breed for healthy and long-lived dogs! Our dogs don’t live in kennels – they
are all raised in our home as family pets. In fact, we have 3 adult dogs that
sleep with us every night!
We
have been breeding the same line of dogs since 1992. We are confident in the
quality and health of our dogs we offer for sale, since we have followed them
for so many years. We receive many stories from people who have purchased dogs.
Read about them on our testimony page. See the adult and rescue
page to read about the older dogs we place in homes.
